Assimilation

“The merging of cultural traits from previously distinct cultural groups, not involving biological amalgamation.”

At least that is what the dictionary defines as assimilation. Outside of these words is a better understanding of this by viewing others around us in our society and other societies.

Just because you grew up in Society A, doesn’t mean if you move you won’t be affected by your new location, Society B. Even if you move again you will bring along your knowledge of Society A & B to Society C, not only have you learned about and are participating in that society, you have brought and passing knowledge along (verbal or non-verbal) of the other 2 societies to Society C.

Diffusion and Assimilation

These two go hand and hand. There are many types of diffusion but for simplicity purposes we will group them all together in one Geological/Anthropologic definition: “The transmission of elements or features of one culture to another.”

Bringing Food to a Culture

McDonald’s wanted to bring restaurants to India. One problem. The government refused because most of the population believed cows were sacred. So, McDonald’s decided to change the menu to fit their culture and make India’s people accepting of their food. When beef was subjected, goat meat and veggie burgers with fruit/vegetable options were added.

‘Clique’- A group of people such as friends. Often used when discussing stereotypes. Stereotypical meaning: Group of goths, preps, emos, punk, etc.

Racial Slurring =ABSURD!

Looking up racial name calling currently and the list is extremely long! Some of the more outrageous terms I would have never guessed are as followed:

ABCD

(South Asians in the U.S.) American-Born Confused Desi, a term used to refer to Indian Americans, Pakistani Americans or other South Asians, term as "desi," who were born in the United States. The condescending term is used chiefly by South Asian Immigrants to imply confusion about cultural identity.

Ape

(U.S.) a black person.

Asian nigger

An ethnic slur against Filipinos

Banana

(North America; UK) An Asian person living in a Western country (e.g., an Asian American) who is yellow on the outside, white on the inside. Used primarily by Asians to indicate someone who has lost touch with his or her cultural identity.^[14]

Beaner

(U.S.) term widely regarded as derogatory, that refers to people of Mexican descent or, more specifically, mestizos of Central American descent.^[15][16][17] The term originates from the prevalence of frijoles pintos and other beans in Mexican food.

Buffie

Chonky

refers to a person of Chinese heritage with white attributes whether being a personality aspect or physical aspect.^[

A native North American from the northernmost inhabitable areas. In some areas it is considered pejorative,

Frog

(Canada, UK and US) A French person.

Half Caste

(UK) Derogatory term against people who are born of mixed race.^[96] Often shortened to 'Halfie

Oreo

(US) A racial slur for being black on the outside and white on the inside, hinted by the appearance of an Oreo cookie.

Ugly American

An epithet common internationally as an insult directed at a citizen of the United States, common usage is against tourists and travellers along with US corporate businesses in the particular area.

Words to base my ideas on for understanding, learning, and scripting about racial issues like assimilation and other related topics. Turning a negative into a positive. Why do we do it? Is the media distorting we we see to what the media wants us to see? Races against the same race being slightly differed in skin? These question will have not so much answers but a better understanding hopefully by the end of the semester.
